Biggest Aerorig launched

'New Dawn' - 87' Bill Dixon Design

The experienced owner of a much used family cruising yacht has asked us to design the replacement. The 87 foot design of 'NEW DAWN' will be built by Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth using the tried and tested cedar core construction technique that proved so successful on the Bill Dixon designed 115 foot 'YANKEE TOO' that was launched in the spring of '96 to such acclaim from Camper and Nicholson's Gosport yard.

The choice of an Aerorig® was decided upon so that the owner can depend on less crew to sail the boat at its best, maybe this will show the way ahead for future superyachts which at present rely on an army of deck crew to be sailed to anywhere near their full potential. The Aerorig® for this boat will have new features resulting from recent R & D carried out in collaboration with Bill Dixon's office. The knock on effect of the Aerorig® being that the deck is not cluttered with the usual fittings associated with a conventional rig and sailplan, a distinct advantage for a boat that has an integrated deck saloon and cockpit for on deck living.

The versatile interior that is to be styled by the edman Whitley Design team will have a light and airy feel for comfortable cruising with the family. The interior layout provides accommodation for 6 in the owners party in three cabins but this can be expanded to 9 if required. The yacht also features a dinghy dock in the transom for tender stowage.
