Intro
Naval architecture makes no exception : if theory is essential, experience and practice are no less so in designing and making an ocean-going sail cruiser like the Beneteau 50. Bruce Farr has, of course, put all his talent into the hull lines, and Beneteau, in collaboration with Armel Briand, has sought original solutions for bringing still more improvements to the comfort of the layout and the deck plan.
It is however the experience of all who have used Oceanis and large Beneteau yachts that has undoubtedly contributed the most important lessons in designing the Beneteau 50. Reliability, performance, comfort both at sea and in port, cruising range and adaptability have therefore been the main criteria adopted in making this ocean-going cruiser.
At Beneteau, we do not see why a cruising boat should be slow. After all, performance is always part of the fun! In terms comfort an unmatched experience gained on all the seas of the world truly makes the Beneteau 50 the ultimate cruising 50 footer of the nineties.

Additional Information
The deck layout on the Beneteau 50 is state of the art : wide sidedecks, a teak covered bulwark and judiciously located hatches ensure easy and safe circulation on deck. For efficient and comfortable cruising, the Beneteau 50 features a dual cockpit configuration : the guest cockpit is well protected and offers great comfort for 8 people around the standard table, while the crew cockpit has two steering positions and directly accessible winches for the helmsman.
Access from the stern is made easy by a built-in step and hinged door that lead to a totally uncluttered passage way to both cockpits.
Designed to be adaptable to different sailing programs, the Beneteau 50 offers two main interior layouts : she is available either with 4 double cabin:, each with its independant head compartment, or 2 aft guest cabins and one forward master bedroom (an optional crew cabin in the forepeak is also available).
The luxurious interior of the Beneteau 50 is offered either in wild chewy (standard) or teak finish (optional). Whatever the version adopted, the kitchen is adapted to the needs of the most demanding cordon bleu chef: refrigerator, freezer, gimballed oven-cooker, and of course a 1,000 litre fresh water capacity. Light and ventilation are ensured by 11 opening hatches, 14 opening ports, 6 fixed skylights and 4 dorade boxes.
